Name: Lt. Col Steven Novotny
About Me:
Lt. Col Steven Novotny is the Director of Core Programs in the USAFA Physics department. He oversees 22 senior military and civilian faculty members in executing the department’s primary mission. Lt Col Novotny is also the Director for USAFA’s Center for Physics Education Research, where he leads researches in developing new pedagogical approaches in STEM education.
Lt. Col Novotny received his PhD in astrophysics from the University of Florida. His Air Force career has focused on the area of Space Situational Awareness. He has spent operational time in the 1st Space Launch Squadron at Cape Canaveral Air Station launching Delta II rockets, and R&D time at the Air Force Research Lab’s Starfire Optical Range on Kirtland Air Force Base, NM.

About Me:
Master Sergeant Vincent Villanueva is the Academy Military Trainer, Cadet Squadron Three, Cadet Group One, Commandant of Cadets, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs Colo. Responsibilities include command and control of 111 cadets. Plans, directs, and implements policies, programs, and procedures directly impacting the morale, welfare, administration, and training of all assigned personnel. He makes recommendations on disciplinary and retention issues to the Commandant of Cadets. He is married to his wife Stacie of ten years and has four children; Alexis, Madison, Benjamin, and Georgia.
MSgt Villanueva entered the Air Force in 1996 upon graduation from Basic Military Training. He is from Palos Hills, Illinois. His first assignment was Offutt AFB Nebraska where he became the youngest Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) flyer in the National Airborne Operation Command Center program. After Offutt he was assigned to Souda Bay Naval Support Activity, Greece serving an unaccompanied in support of the RJ-135 reconnaissance aircraft. His next assignment led him to Aviano AB, Italy where he became proficient in the area of fighter aircraft support. He taught 3-level AGE course at Sheppard, AFB earning him the Master Instructor Badge.
